10:00am Meet at Discovery Centre and orientation - Collect course maps and compass. Instructor explains map symbols and how to read contour lines.
10:20am Compass basics and map matching - Learn how to set map to north, use compass bearings, and match terrain features on the ground to map symbols.
10:50am Short warm-up course (1 mile) - Navigate to 5-6 checkpoints. Instructors follow and provide guidance. Pace is leisurely; focus is learning.
11:30am Longer navigation course (2 miles) - Navigate independently to 8-10 checkpoints. Instructors remain available for questions. Record controls at punch stations.
12:20pm Cool-down and debrief - Return to Discovery Centre. Review which routes were hardest. Discuss progression to independent orienteering events.
